Elevate Your Standing Desk: Simple Adjustments to Enhance Productivity

On their own, standing desks are powerful performance boosters, as has been evidenced by the thousands of users who have been singing their praises. Experts have echoed the same sentiments by highlighting that the sit-stand alternation paves the way for better focus and, thus, more productivity at work. But did you know that you can make additional adjustments to make your working experience even more enjoyable? We have some ideas that you will love.

Adjusting Your Standing Desk for Optimal Productivity.

First things first, you want to start with the proper foundation, which hinges on setting up your desk the right way. The desk height should allow your elbows to meet the tabletop at an angle of 90 degrees, which ensures that your posture is correct. The top of your monitor should align with your eye level so your neck does not strain. Finally, you should be in an upright position, lengthening your spine naturally while keeping your feet hip-width apart.

While some desks require you to play around with the settings each time you use them, some, like those from desktronic.co.uk, offer memory presets. As such, you can choose the positions that work best for you, and anytime you want to switch to standing mode, you can transition to these existing settings.

    Bringing on the Accessories.

You may have noticed that most standing desks come with add-ons and may have been wondering if they bring anything to the table. The answer is yes. Here are some things you may want to include in your setup:

    For Optimal Comfort

Learning to work while standing is a bit of a learning curve, which you can simplify by integrating the following essential accessories:

    1. A monitor arm. This allows you to position your monitor to align with your eye level, regardless of whether you are sitting or standing. Your neck and eyes will thank you for saving them from fatigue.
    2. A laptop stand. If you’re using a laptop, this is the equivalent of a monitor arm. It elevates the laptop so that you can view the screen at eye level. To make the setup more comfortable, consider getting a secondary keyboard and mouse to use when in the standing position.
    3. A keyboard tray. This accessory, which fits right under the desk, holds your keyboard and mouse, enabling you to control what’s happening on your monitor at any angle without straining your arms.
    4. An anti-fatigue mat. It’s always advisable to wear comfortable shoes with enough padding when standing for long periods at a time. This mat provides some extra padding to reduce the strain on your feet.

These accessories are essential in helping you improve your posture and comfort as you progress in your standing time.

    For Organisation

While you may not know this, clutter on your desk negatively impacts productivity. So, how can you switch between sitting and standing while ensuring your environment is conducive to great performance? Here are some additions you can make:

    1. A desk organiser. This comes in many forms, from trays to drawer units. Knowing how much clutter you often have on your desk, choose the one that allows you to have all your essentials in one place.
    2. A cable organiser. With monitor, mouse, keyboard, and other cables on your desk, your workspace can feel a bit too busy. Using a cable organiser allows you to clip the cables in place and out of view so that you can have a tidy setup.
    3. A whiteboard. You can get the best ideas when you least expect it. Moreover, you may have to write down notes and reminders as you go about your day. Setting up this board in front of your workstation allows you to do so without cluttering your desk.

Many standing desks come with organiser add-ons that fit seamlessly into the existing standing desk – it is a good idea to inquire if such options are available so you can have an aesthetically appealing work station.

Finally, spruce up your space by investing in aesthetic add-ons such as task lighting, plants, artwork, and personal memorabilia, ensuring that you use a minimalistic approach to avoid cluttering your space.
