The tech industry is advancing at a rapid pace. It is actually impressive how fast people are coming up with new inventions and improvements to past tech. The 21st century can truly be called the “digital age.” However, as with any point in history, the rapid advancement of technology has a lot of people worried as well. So, in this article, we’d like to look at the tech innovations that have people excited, and worried, about their possible implementation in the future.
Blockchains
Most people who’ve heard the term blockchain, recognize it from their involvement with cryptocurrency and maybe non-fungible tokens. However, blockchains are much more than just storage units for crypto.
In simple terms, blockchains are decentralized, digital ledgers, that are used to record transactions across multiple devices. The goal is to ensure privacy, security, and transparency, by implementing cryptography.
Blockchains have already become a huge part of the digital market. They are used most frequently in crypto trading. However, other industries have also embraced blockchains. A notable example would be the iGaming market, which is steadily growing.
For those who don’t know, iGaming refers to online gambling. The industry has a surprising link to crypto and blockchains. We are of course referencing the numerous crypto casinos at Casinofy, as well as similar websites.
These websites allow fans to gamble using crypto, which many customers enjoy, as they like the transparency and anonymity associated with it. However, others are worried about the cost ineffectiveness and energy costs of blockchains and cryptocurrency.
While tech experts are trying their best to reduce the risks of blockchains, there is no denying that there are risks. The big one is the detrimental cost to the environment that crypto mining has. Hacking is also a big risk, and many are not willing to take it.
Artificial Intelligence
For decades, even centuries, (and maybe even millennia) people have dreamed of creating artificial intelligence. Today, the idea is much closer to being real than ever before. Machine learning algorithms have improved drastically, to the point that AI can produce texts, essays, and even art.
The potential that true artificial intelligence has is immense. If done right, AI could replace menial labor, as well as be used properly in medicine, traffic control, tourism, and even sports. Indeed, the novels of Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke do not seem quite so distant anymore.
On the other hand, quite a lot of people are worried about the rise of AI. For one thing, many are opposed to the idea of Artificial Intelligence producing art. There are several reasons for their opposition, and it is important to know what they are.
The first is that many people view AI art as stealing or plagiarism. In essence, AI is not at the point where it can create its own art. Rather, it creates new art out of works that it can locate online. A lot of people have issues with this concept.
On the other hand, there are those people who are simply oppose to the idea that AI should be used to create art in the first place. They believe the goal should be to eliminate labor, so that humans can focus on creative pursuits, while AI is doing all the work. This belief may be a bit utopian, but it is one held by many none-the-less.
Virtual Reality
Much like AI, VR has been a staple of science fiction story telling since the very inception of sci-fi. And again, much like with artificial intelligence, virtual reality is no longer a pie-in-the-sky dream. Rather, it is a reality that many partake in.
There are quite a few firms that focus on improving the capabilities of artificial intelligence, such as Czech VR for example. People, for their part, are also quite excited about the idea of being fully-immersed in a virtual world.
However, VR is not just a cool new way to play games. In fact, there are a lot of cool uses for virtual reality. For example, one could use it to explore museums, landmarks, cultural sites, and much more. Already, many museums offer VR tours all over the world.
So, what is the issue? Well, we’ve seen many of the VR horror/sci-fi films. The fear is that some people will be unable to distinguish virtual from reality. Of course, this may cause massive problems in the way we socialize.
