Stuck with a Jammed Car Lock? Follow the Steps to Unlock the Jam!

There can be various reasons why the car lock may be jammed. Dirt, dust, rust, or any faulty internal part or mechanism can cause trouble.

When dealing with a jammed car lock, understanding the costs associated with replacement can be crucial. For a detailed Hyundai Key Replacement Price Overview, exploring the various pricing options available can help you make an informed decision. Knowing these details ensures you can address your lock issues effectively while staying within your budget.

Before you take your car to the auto repair shop, here are two methods to fix the lock yourself. Many people think that DIY lock fixing is not an ideal option. But when you know the exact process, what’s wrong with doing it? Why spend a few dollars on it if it can be fixed in a step or two? Let’s check the easy methods that allow you to fix it without hassle:

    • Method 1: Using Lubricant

If rust has been building up for a long time or the car still needs to be cleaned, door jamming is quite a common concern. You can use a penetrating catalyst or an all-purpose lubricant that can clean all the parts inside the lock and remove the jam. It will also protect the lock against further corrosion and dust build-up. This method can be implemented for manual and electronic car locks, but it must have a keyhole.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: Poke the top of the Screwdriver

Remove the key and place the screwdriver’s tip against the movable metal covering the keyhole. Push the screwdriver until the metal piece has moved through the hole and the lubricant enters the keyhole.

    Step 2: Spray the lubricant

Take the lubricant nozzle as close to the keyhole as possible and press it 4 to 5 times. You must put a generous amount of spray into the keyhole. Some lubricant cans also come with straws that can be attached to the nozzle. Stick the straw into the nozzle and spray the lubricant.

Step 3: Try to loosen the lock

Remove the flathead screwdriver and insert the car key into the keyhole. Move the key back and forth so the tumblers can loosen inside the lock. Next, try to turn the key and unlock the car. However, if you find that the jam is still there, never force the key into the keyhole; otherwise, the key might break, worsening the condition.

Repeat the above three to four times until the jam is cleared. If you still need help, get a locksmith Lebanon Oregon, to unjam and fix the problem.

    • Method 2: Unjam the locking mechanism

You must access the lock to unjam the locking mechanism; removing the interior door handle is the only way out. You can also remove the entire door panel. Also, you might find that the door has a sticky insulation sheet that needs to be removed to continue the repair work.

Next, use a flashlight to locate the door lock mechanism and look for a metal plate attached to a rod under the door lock. With a pair of needle-nose pillars, grab the rod and move it up and down, which will help unjam the lock. If the rod is not moving, try spraying some lubricant. Finally, insert the car key and test the lock.

    Summing it up

Follow the manufacturer’s guidebook for the exact steps, as the procedure for removing the interior door handle tends to vary from one car to another. If you are uncomfortable with repairing work, contact Locksmith Corvallis Oregon.
